Dr. Andreas Reiserer - MPQ
1. Briefly describe your current position, research focus, and your role within MCQST.
I am leading the Quantum Networks Group at the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics.
2. Please could you tell us more about quantum communication and your research?
Our group investigates a novel hardware platform for distributed quantum information processing: erbium dopants in silicon and silicate crystals. This system features a unique combination of second-long qubit memory time with coherent optical transitions at a telecommunication wavelength, where loss in optical fibers is minimal. We currently develop and build two robust and transportable systems, which will allow us to generate entanglement between different laboratories on the Garching campus and use it as a resource for quantum communication. In addition, we plan to demonstrate distributed quantum information processing between optically-interfaced dopants on a silicon chip.
3. What are you cooking/baking during the holidays?
I’ll bake some Christmas cookies with my daughters, with as much pink glitter as they manage to attach.
