1st Permanent Exhibition on Quantum Optics in the World
The "Light and Matter" exhibition explores the foundations of quantum optics and illustrates how our understanding of light and matter has evolved over the past century. These insights are crucial for the rapidly advancing fields of quantum science and technology, which are at the forefront of current research.
The exhibition is developed by the
Deutsches Museum together with the Cluster of Excellence Munich Centre for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST). It has officially opened on 18 June 2024, can be visited until end of October 2025, and will subsequently be part of the new permanent Physics exhibition after completion of the renovation of the museum.
Opening of "Light and Matter"
On 18 June 2024, we celebrated the opening of "Light and Matter". The event featured remarks by Markus Blume, Bavarian State Minister for Science and the Arts, and Wolfgang Heckl, Director General of the Deutsches Museum. It also included a panel discussion and a public talk by Nobel Laureate Wolfgang Ketterle (MIT). The evening, moderated by Ralph Caspers, is available on our YouTube channel.

A „Quantum“ Insight
This special exhibition, created in collaboration with MCQST, explores the evolution of light-matter interaction and highlights current research and future applications.

Quantum Mail
At the MCQST module in the "Light and Matter" exhibition in Deutsches Museum visitors have the opportunity to ask their own questions to the researchers.
