Phan Thành Nam, professor at the Department of Mathematics at the LMU München and member of the MCQST cluster of excellence is one of the winners of the EMS Award 2020 of the European Mathematical Society (EMS).
The prize is awarded every four years during the European Congress of Mathematics (ECM) to young scientists in recognition of excellent contributions in mathematics. Due to the current global situation, the 2020 Congress has been rescheduled for June 2021, on which occasion lectures by the winners will be held. Prof. Nam's research field is analysis and mathematical physics, in particular in many-body quantum mechanics, spectral theory, calculus of variations and partial differential equations and numerical analysis. “The prize is a great recognition of my work. It certainly gives me more confidence to try challenging research problems in the future. I am very grateful to the support from my colleagues and collaborators” says Phan Thành Nam about his new achievement.
The European Mathematical Society is a learned society representing mathematicians throughout Europe. It promotes the development of all aspects of mathematics in Europe, in particular mathematical research, relations of mathematics to society, relations to European institutions, and mathematical education.
