Three doctoral researchers have received this year's Nano Innovation Award from the Center for NanoScience. This award, which recognizes innovative research in application-oriented nanosciences, comes with a prize of €9.000. An expert jury from industry and academia selected the winners from applicants across Bavaria. The award ceremony took place during the "CeNS meets Industry" event on 12 July 2024.

The second prize went to Andreas Gritsch, MCQST member working in the Quantum Networks groups at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and TUM. He created a novel experimental platform for quantum networks by integrating erbium dopants into silicon photonic nanostructures. Andreas Gritsch's pioneering research paves the way for new developments in quantum information technologies, with significant potential for scalable quantum network nodes. A patent has been filed for his findings, and initial steps towards commercialization are underway.

Congratulations!
