Looking at Physics from a Gender and Diversity Studies Perspective
Does physics research reflect societal biases? Can gender and diversity studies strengthen our work as physicists? Join our workshop with Prof. Helene Götschel to discuss these topics with the 2021 Diversity in Leadership cohort.
In this workshop we delve into concepts and theories in gender and diversity studies. We look at five different dimensions where gender and physics are entangled: people, culture, knowledge, image, and teaching of physics. Presentations and short inputs alternate with exchanges of experience and discussions within breakout rooms. Helene is Professor for Science Education at TU Darmstadt. Earlier in her career she taught physics to engineering students at a university of applied sciences. Her work is interdisciplinary, exploring the intersection of science & technology, gender & diversity studies, and education & pedagogy. |
