Perspectives on Leadership

Stepping into the first leadership position is always combined with a couple of challenges. In this session, we will have a closer look into selected reflection tools that are useful for taking action as a leader.

We start with a reflection of a "three world-model“ in order to reflect yourself as a person shaped through your personal world, your profession and your organisation. We will discuss how those three worlds can influence your leadership role. We will continue with looking further into the triangle of „Me – Staff – Organisation“ as well as the destinction of Warren Bennis‘ distinction between «Mangement and Leadership» and discuss its implication for being a leader.

In the last part, you will learn about the „Cultural-Encounter-Model“ that will help you to understand why we face misunderstandings. We will discuss the role of communication as a neccessary tool to achieve a better mutual understanding.

Methods

  • Short periods of lecture
  • Discussion
  • Self reflection
  • Group reflection excercises
