The event is part of the "Women in QST" series, where we aim to regularly feature inspiring female scientists from the field of Quantum Science and Technology. Outstanding female researchers are invited to talk about their research and current projects, as well as about their career paths with the local QST community.

We are excited to kick off the series with a talk by Dr. Marissa Giustina, senior research scientist and quantum electronics engineer in the Google AI Quantum team.

Abstract

The Google AI Quantum team develops chip-based circuitry we can interact with (control and read out) that behaves reliably according to a simple quantum model. Such “quantum hardware” holds promise as a platform for tackling some problems intractable to classical computing hardware. This presentation introduces Google’s quantum computing effort from a hardware perspective, including a basic overview of the current hardware stack, a discussion of some unique challenges inherent to quantum hardware, and snapshots of the technology we have been developing.

About Marissa

Dr. Marissa Giustina is a senior research scientist and quantum electronics engineer in the Google AI Quantum hardware team. She joined Google’s quantum computing research effort in 2016, and much of her work since then has focused on developing and deploying the technological infrastructure needed to scale up the team’s quantum processors by an order of magnitude in qubit number. Prior to Google, Dr. Giustina worked at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, where she designed, built, and published a “loophole-free” experiment testing Bell’s inequality using entangled optical photons in the group of Dr. Anton Zeilinger. Dr. Giustina has delivered dozens of invited research talks and colloquia internationally, including presentations at leading quantum conferences.

Program

The event will consist of two parts:

  • 11:00 - 12:15 | Scientific Talk by Dr. Giustina, open to everyone interested.
  • 12:30 - 14:00 | Women in QST Lunch (pre-registration required).

Registration

If you would like to join the Women in QST lunch, please register at events(at)mcqst.de by 10.09.2019 the latest.

The talk is open to everyone interested, no registration required.

Childcare

We are more than happy to accommodate any requirements you may have, e.g. using the on-site nursing room or professional childcare. Please contact us and we will assist in finding the best care for your family.

We would like to acknowledge and thank Google Germany for sponsoring the event.
