Academic career and family? An exchange of ideas and experiences.

SFB 1032 and MCQST Family invite you to join us for a discussion with Rudolf Gross, Tim Liedl, Judith Megerle, and Jabok Lenz about their experiences of having a family while working in academia. They will share insights about their experiences, expectations, and wishes from different perspectives: as supervisors, as well as PhDs.

There will also be the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas and opinions during and after the event.

The speakers

  • Rudolf Gross - MCQST speaker, professor for technical physics at TUM and director of Walther-Meißner-Institute for Low Temperature Research.
  • Tim Liedl - professor for experimental physics at LMU München.
  • Judith Megerle - holds a PhD in physics (Rädler Group) from LMU München and now works at Scanlab. She will share her experience of being a parent during her PhD in retrospect.
  • Jakob Lenz - a PhD student in physics of nanosystems at LMU München. He will share his experience of what it is like to be a PhD student and a parent.
